EA Shutting Down Servers for Older Games

EA is prepping to pull the plug on more of its aging online titles, the publisher's announced via a service update.

Electronic Arts has published a list of 17 titles, primarily for consoles, that will be losing their online functionality next month, including Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Army of Two, and Skate. The decision to do this is made when an extremely small number of players continue to actively play any given game.
As the Online Service Updates page puts it, "The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy. The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired. But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles below a point -- fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles -- where it's feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running.

"We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we appreciate your ongoing patronage."

It's not the first time EA has taken old games offline. The service updates page lists all of the previous games that have had their online modes killed, many of which are old sports and racing titles.

The same could be said for this batch of titles; more than half are either a racing or sports game, with the others being older shooters or demos, such as the Battlefield 2142 PC demo.

The full list of titles having their online services shut down follows below. The majority will go down on August 11, with two others following on October 1.

I drop a comment when I especially enjoy a post on a website or

Usually it is caused by the passion communicated in the post I browsed.
And on this post "EA Shutting Down Servers for Older Games".
I was actually excited enough to drop a thought ;-) I do have some questions for you
if you usually do not mind. Could it be just me or does
it give the impression like a few of these responses look as if
they are coming from brain dead visitors? :-P And, if
