The Father of Video Games Thinks Today's Violent Games Are "A Disgrace"

Ralph H. Baer, creator of the the first video game console ever in 1974, the Magnavox Odyssey, has reflected on the current state of the video game industry and shared some very negative sentiments toward the violent content being produced today. The gaming icon even goes so far as to refer to the violent nature of contemporary games as a disgrace or abomination.

Ralph H. Baer, the 89-year-old widely known as "The Father of Video Games" after creating the first home console with the Brown Box/Magnavox Odyssey among other gaming inventions, has some words for the violent titles prevalent today, like today's big release, Modern Warfare 3.

"I think it's a disgrace," said Baer in a recent interview with The Salt Lake Tribune. While he was proud of how far consoles and the industry have advanced since his inventions decades ago, when talking about violent video games, he commented, "What I created got abominated."

It's no surprise that what once started as simple, non-violent paddle and ball games has become almost unrecognizable many years. Baer added, "You can see the same thing in music, literature, art — any form of art".
