No Xbox 720 in 2012, Says Pachter
[Michael Pachter Says Rumors About Next Xbox Are 'Silly', Microsoft Won't Reveal Next Console Until 2014]

It's pretty clear by now that the current generation of consoles is winding down, and as expected, tons of rumors about when the next consoles will land have been circulating lately. In fact, Pachter thinks that we won't see the next Xbox - which is rumored to be announced sometime next year and then released possibly before the end of 2012 - until 2014.

Xbox 720 won't launch next year and likely won't even launch in 2013. That's the uncompromising view of gaming analyst Michael Pachter, who says Microsoft is selling way too many Xbox 360s to introduce a new machine.

He believes the company is merely planning to launch an updated version of Xbox 360.

He said, "Those [2012 launch] rumors are silly. Microsoft is still selling a ton of Xbox 360s, and they won't replace the existing one until sales begin to slow. I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8."

Pachter is a media-friendly analyst at Wedbush Securities. He commented. "I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don't think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014."
