Shiny New Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Out Now

Notable hacker pod2g and the Chronic Dev Team have released the first untethered jailbreak for Apple's iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Not surprisingly, Apple hates its devices being jailbroken and used in unintended ways, so the company regularly issues operating system updates that make it harder to jailbreak.

Today should be a very happy day for iOS jailbreakers, thanks to those clever guys at Chronic Dev Team. They have released a new (and the first) untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.

As a little icing on the jailbreak cake the new jailbreak has a very cool name – Absinthe. I much prefer that over colorful snow and rain (though I have the utmost affection for those jailbreaks back in the day).

The Chronic Dev Team’s site is beyond slammed today, so my best suggestion if you want to get your iPhone 4S or iPad 2 jailbreak going is to visit our friends at iDownload Blog where you’ll find download links that are working well and a good, easy step-by-step on how to do the jailbreak. Here’s where you need to go: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2012/01/20/how-to-jailbreak-iphone-4s-ipad-2-untethered-absinthe/

If you give this a try this weekend let us know in the comments how it goes for you. A couple of us here will likely be giving it a go as well, and when we do we’ll share some early thoughts on it.
